Advanced Moisture in Buildings: (AMIB course)
April 10,2012 8 credit hours
Course Fees: Insurance - $25 All others $150
COURSE OBJECTIVE - Water/moisture problems are a large destroyer of today's built environment. Moisture problems cause severe decay to buildings, and are often accompanied by potential health problems from mold and bacterial growth. These issues are escalating due to declining quality construction practices and building materials. Some moisture issues are covered under the insurance policy and some are not. The course intent is to help the Insurance Professional determine if the moisture issues are resulting from poor construction practices or if they are claim-related. This will also help when inspecting properties for potential insurability.
We strongly recommend completing this course before the PMD course.
Topics we will cover:
- Physics of moisture movement
- Ice Dams-Cause and prevention
- Attic moisture
- Leaking siding, doors, and windows
- Leaking roofs
- Crawlspace moisture issues
- Vapor barrier/vapor retarder issues
